Association Community brings the "Words of Europe" to Arques, in first French event for the project
A Unique Opportunity for Refugees to Share their Views on the EU's Future
On January 23, the Association Community, as part of its "Words of Europe" project, visited Coallia, a private NGO located in Arques that provides support to refugees. The objective of the event was to engage the inhabitants of Coallia and gather their opinions on what they envision the EU will look like in five years.
The event was attended by 12 participants, including mothers and children, who were welcomed with coffee or tea. A brief introduction to the "Words of Europe" project was given, followed by a group exercise where participants were asked to imagine the future of the EU in 2027. Despite the language barrier, with only one participant fluent in English, the groups were able to effectively communicate and exchange their ideas.
At the end of the exercise, the participants selected four key words to describe their vision for the EU's future: united, peace, freedom, and love. Although their projections for the next five years were not optimistic, the participants expressed hope for a better future.
In conclusion, the event was a unique opportunity for refugees to share their views on the EU's future and highlight the importance of inclusiveness in shaping the direction of the continent. The Association Community plans to return to Coallia to complete the EU survey with the participants, who may face difficulties in completing it on their own.
